I have recently added a live support feature to the Christian's Fitness Factory website. It uses a great tool that I found called Hab.la. It is a free javascript based chat program that connects via any jabber client like Pidgin. It also has support for AIM and MSN.
It is extremely simple to add to most websites, you just drop 3 or 4 lines of code on the page you want it to appear on and it fires up. The chat will float in the bottom of your screen until you click on it and it opens up. One of the best things about hab.la is how easy it is to customize. If you take a look on the CFF site you can see how we used online and offline graphics (I can't take all of the credit here much of the work was done by the guys over at Shape5 with their Hab.la module for Joomla). Even if you don't want to do all of that you can still use the very easy customizer at hab.la to change the colors to match your site.
The only real draw backs that I have found:
Overall I would highly recomend that you check hab.la out. I think they are right on track and have a great product. The support is top notch also, which can be rare for a free product. |
